I enjoy traveling, although I don’t get to do it as often as I’d like. When it comes to travel, I agree that, all else being equal, the person with broader travel experience and greater exposure to different places is more likely to make the best decisions.

I plan my trips with NomadMania, which has an extensive database of places of interest. I also use it to keep track of everywhere I’ve visited by marking locations on the map. For more detailed itineraries and notes about specific attractions, I rely on lists in Google Maps and Yandex Maps.

I’d highly recommend the educational project Moscow Through the Eyes of an Engineer. I’ve joined not only their tours in Moscow but also a three-day trip to Kaluga with them, which included a guided visit to the Nikola-Lenivets Art Park. Now I’d love to join one of their tours outside Russia as well. Another great resource is the Architecture of Soviet Modernism book series. Using the volume dedicated to Almaty, I even created a separate map of the city’s modernist architecture.

The list does not include the countless trips to Voronezh while I was living in Moscow, visits to my grandparents in the Voronezh region while I was living in Voronezh, or the various hunting trips I took with my father as a child—somewhere near Rossosh or perhaps Ramon. Visits to my parents' country house are included only selectively, covering the last few years I lived in Moscow.
